On Thursday 14th October, as a part of the Donaldson Week activities, the UIV (Year 9) girls had the chance to get up close and personal with animals you would normally only encounter in the wild.

The morning was spent at Bristol’s Wild Place, not only getting to view the animals and learn about animals you wouldn’t normally encounter in Wiltshire, but also looking at the enclosures they were kept within. Considerations of mixed species enclosures, replicating the natural habitat, security and public viewing had to be balanced.

The afternoon saw the girls becoming zoo designers, producing their own enclosures for a chosen animal and putting into practice what they had seen in the morning. We are pleased to report no animals (or people) were harmed in the making of this activity and the atmosphere of excitement and competition was felt throughout!
