The celebration of Chinese New Year continues within the Mandarin-learning community cooking up some tasty treats!

LIV (Year 7) Mandarin Plus pupils made glass noodle salad and learnt that in Chinese culture, noodles symbolise longevity. LV (Year 10) enjoyed making spring rolls and chicken fried noodles, whilst MIV (Year 8) and UIV (Year 9) also made delicious spring rolls to share with their peers. Food is a major part of Chinese culture and often has some auspicious associations. Traditionally people in the Chinese-speaking communities eat spring rolls during the Spring Festival (hence the name) as a way of welcoming the arrival of spring. May and Miya (UIV) volunteered to make ‘Tang Yuan’ (sticky rice balls), which is one of the classic desserts to celebrate the coming of the Lantern Festival on 15th February.

It has certainly been another week of feasting to welcome in the Year of the Tiger!
