One of the old German Easter traditions is the ‘Ostereierbaum’, where decorated eggs are hung up on a tree outside or on twigs in vases inside the house. It symbolises the arrival of spring and children all over Germany enjoy this tradition of decorating the eggs.

In our German lessons at the end of this term, pupils were introduced to this tradition and had a go at decorating their own eggs in the traditional way.

Amy (UIV - Year 9) gave this account of the Easter activities:

'In our German class today, we had to blow out the inside of an egg before we decorated them. We started by watching a video where they decorated a tree with over 10,000 handmade eggs which were beautifully decorated with glitter, paint and wool plus other designs. I personally decorated my egg with bunnies while I ate chocolate eggs. It was a really fun lesson with a mixture of art, German and eating.'
