On Monday 14th February, the Fourth Form entered the magical wizarding world of Harry Potter, learning how to play Quidditch! Eve (MIV, Year 8) shares her account of what was a fantastic day!

'The morning kicked off with a 'sorting ceremony' which involved everyone being sorted into the four Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. After the groups had been determined according to each person’s personality, we then hit the Quidditch pitch! On the pitch, we learnt the names of all the balls used in the game, the positions, and rules. Of course, there were no broomsticks involved, for obvious reasons - only muggles over the age of 18 are allowed a broom licence...

Each game required throwing the quaffle through one of three hoops. The beaters threw bludgers at anyone who had the quaffle, and if they were hit, the quaffle would be turned over to the other team. All the keepers did a great job of guarding the hoops and everyone scored lots of points for their houses. Each team also had a seeker who had 10 seconds to chase and catch the golden snitch. Some girls were very surprised at the speed of the golden snitches (the teachers!).

At the end of each session, there was a mini tournament where houses tried to earn as many points as possible to see who would win the Quidditch Cup. In the end, the winner of the St Mary’s Calne Quidditch Cup was Slytherin! Everyone greatly enjoyed this magical morning - thank you very much Miss Turley for organising it!'
