On Monday 21st March, we were joined by Marcus Burnett, Director of Burnett Global Education, who provide impartial information and advice for students who wish to study in an international environment and specialise in the hospitality and luxury brand management sector.
Marcus spoke to us in detail about the opportunities available in the high-end hospitality sector, and disproved the theory that this meant solely ‘hotel’ jobs. Studying for a qualification in Hospitality can lead you down many paths, including International Business Management, Hospitality Management, Luxury Brand Management, Event Management, Finance and Travel. He explained that there is a large focus on Travel and Tourism and its links with sustainability and digital adaptation. For example, in many hotels you can now use your phone in place of a room key card. This shows the way in which the hospitality industry is evolving and adapting with technological advances.
As Marcus represents some of the leading universities offering hospitality programmes, he spoke to us a little about the courses, universities and their locations, to really show us what can be involved and the opportunities you can take on whilst studying. If you study at a top hospitality university, for example Glion or Les Roches, you can expect on average two offers of employment on your graduation day. The courses are taught in English, and you have a great opportunity to travel, not only with work placements but college campuses.
It was really interesting to hear about all of the different career opportunities and future avenues available when studying Hospitality, especially abroad, and it was great to hear that you can do a taster course in the form of a 1-3 week summer programme, to really see how you would fare in this type of studying.
We greatly appreciate Marcus coming in to speak to us and we hope that we can welcome him back again in the future.
