A few action-packed Friday afternoons in the pool before Half Term saw MIV master the art of self-survival skills in the water. They learnt so many new things which will hopefully help them cope calmly if they ever find themselves in stressful situations in the water.

MIV discovered firsthand how difficult it is to swim distance in wet clothes and the safest method to remove such items whilst treading water. They learnt about varying dangers in unfamiliar surroundings, including the more hidden dangers in different bodies of water dependent on tides, currents, and variable weather.

A real fun part to the course was methods of rescues, whilst putting their own safety first. These ranged from controlled reaching and wading rescues to the more unpredictable float throwing and rope coiling and throwing, both initially not always going in the right direction, however this improved considerably with practice.

A big thankyou to Mr Carter and Miss Davies for helping to perfectly allocate a large amount of criteria into a small amount of time.

Well done MIV, your enthusiasm was infectious!
