Last weekend saw a number of competitive fixtures against Godolphin School and Westonbirt School and the first outing for the Mixed Age Team (MAT) against Bath Lacrosse Club.

To start, it was brilliant to see the U15s and the U13s coming away with good wins against Godolphin School and Westonbirt School. We are seeing some great skill development across these two teams. Well done to all!

The highlight of the weekend was the first outing for the Mixed Age Team (MAT), this is an opportunity for different players from the different age groups to play on the same team against club teams, which gives our players a new match play experience.

The first match saw the team face the Bath Lacrosse Club in the Senior Womens South West Cup competition. The opposition had a number of experienced players, including international players, lacrosse coaches from other schools, as well university players.IMG_0765_small.jpg

The game started off well with SMC scoring first, however the opposition, led by former Calne girl Amy Bolton, were able to go on a scoring run and finish the quarter 6 - 2 up. Over the next quater, better defence play led to SMC gaining more of the ball and taking their chances meant we were able to make it a closer game. With Baylee (UV) winning numerous draws and  great midfield play from Freya (LVI), Jemima and May (UV), more scoring opportunities opened up with Olivia (UV) showing good shooting form to score a number of goals. The defence showed great strength holding out experienced players with Phoebe (LV), Tabitha (UV) and Lottie (LV) causing a number of turnovers.

The final score showed the effort the team put in, playing a much longer game than they are used to and with only one sub. A great showing in this new competition.

Final Score: SMC 11 - 16 Bath Club
