On Saturday 25th November, the first-ever 'Parents and Guardians Lacrosse Taster Session' took place at St Mary's. This was a fun and friendly opportunity for our superstar sideline supporters to enjoy a taste of lacrosse - learning a little more about the game, trying their hand at a range of lacrosse skills and experiencing what it's like on the field!
The morning started indoors with the very important warm-up before the P&G’s showed us if they could match the students with some of the skills and tricks of lacrosse. A move outside saw the level step up with participants learning how to ‘scoop’ the ball from the ground with some competitive groundballs, (the first demonstration showing the competitive nature between mother and daughter!). After some 'throwing, catching and running with the ball' practice, the P&G’s were ready for a game. The teams were split with parents playing alongside their daughters - although some were eager to play against each other!
The action was end to end and it was clear that we had some lacrosse stars in the P&G group, including some alumnae reliving their St Mary's playing days. The actual game ended in a draw but, most importantly, everyone had fun and wanted to play for longer. It was a fantastic experience for all and the P&G’s were able to stay and watch their daughters play in fixtures where SMC had a clean sweep of wins.
