On Sunday evening the whole school participated in a poignant, candlelit Remembrance Service in Chapel. The service was put together by members of the UVI under the leadership of Izzy, in her role as Minister for Communities.
The Service included a well-chosen selection of readings from both World Wars and from more recent conflicts. Alongside the readings were some beautiful solo pieces sung by Izzy, Katie and Amy. For the Act of Remembrance we moved out into the Lime Kiln Garden, the night illuminated by hundreds of tea lights, every person carrying one as a sign of hope in a dark world. Wreaths were then laid by Mr Albery, Mr Carter, Mrs Mutch and Wing Commander Chalk.
Reflecting on the Service, Izzy commented:
'The Remembrance Service was beautifully poignant and enabled everyone attending to reflect on the true meaning of remembrance, and being able to lay the wreaths in the Lime Kiln Garden made the service all the more special.
I’m very grateful to all the UVI readers and singers for preparing and presenting so well, and my thanks also goes to Mrs Mutch, Mr Chalk, Mr Carter and Mr Albery (my grandfather!) for laying the wreaths, and to Mike Daniels for playing The Last Post.'
