It has been a busy and positive time for swimming at St Mary’s, with a tremendous 'first' achieved when we finished in the Top 30 schools in the ESSA Relays and lots of swimming success at recent galas.
Gala News
Last Friday evening, the U15 and U13 had a convincing win against Stonar. There were some close finishes and fast times in the U13 age group, with both schools evenly matched, splitting the wins between them. The U15 team stamped their authority, winning all their seven races.
A quick drying of towels and costumes was required for the last-minute 'Friendly Gala' which was organised for Saturday at St Mary's against Downe House. This was mainly due to the uncertainty of the weather forecast and soggy pitches changing plans. (Typical British weather!) For St Mary’s it was an all-inclusive gala with no focus on results. It allowed as many pupils as possible to race who wouldn't ordinarily have the chance to do so in a competitive environment. There were not so many top places but lots of smiles which made up for it.
ESSA Relays - Fantastic Result!
A huge positive for St Mary’s swimming, was, for the first time ever, finishing in the top 30 schools in the country at the ESSA Relays. Florence B (UIV), Mathilda (UIV), Nara (LV), and Florence P (LV) were outstanding in the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay.
Well done to all involved in St Mary’s swimming!
