On Saturday, St Mary's Calne hosted the eagerly anticipated SMC Cup, welcoming teams representing Westonbirt, Sherborne Girls, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Marlborough College and Canford. The prestigious SMC Cup is awarded to the school amassing the highest points across various year groups in their respective pools, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd, U15A, U15B, U14A, and U14B categories.

St Mary’s Calne successfully defended their title, and secured the trophy for another year. Congratulations to all of the teams that contributed to this amazing achievement!

SMC Cup results

2nd team – 1st place
3rd team  - 1st place
U15A  - 1st place
U15B – Joint 1st place
U14A – 1st place
U14B – 3rd place

The SMC 1st XI Team also run their own tournament alongside the cup, showcasing their best skills against very talented opposition. Our team's defence strategy proved very strong, putting the other teams under pressure and led to lots of critical turnovers.

Molly (LVI) did an exceptional job in goal making some incredible and imperative saves throughout the tournament. The team's rapid transitions up the pitch created numerous opportunities for fast breaks in the attacking end.

A standout moment was the final game against Westonbirt, where Daisy's (UVI) remarkable hattrick secured the trophy for St Mary’s Calne, marking their first triumph in this particular tournament.

As well as the SMC Cup we hosted Cheltenham Ladies’ College U13 and U12 Teams to give more of the students a chance to play, some for the first time in a proper match. The U13s secured an impressive 8-2 win while the U12A and B squads faced tough challenges, unfortunately resulting in losses.

Fantastic performances from all the teams, displaying commendable efforts and sportsmanship.
