This week our Tuesday night lecture was linked to British Science Week. We were incredibly fortunate to have Dr Carolyn McNabb join us from Cardiff University to talk about her research into schizophrenia, with a particular focus on the use of MRIs to identify white matter in the brain. She first joined us for a delicious pre-lecture supper with current psychology students where topics ranging from research on rats to the link between gut GABA and the brain were discussed.

Her lecture started with an overview of schizophrenia as a disorder, and some biological theories of it as some background information, to then go on and look at MRIs and white matter, touching not only on neuroscience and psychology but also elements of physics. She has collaborated with the University of Auckland, Cambridge, and Cardiff as part of her research project. It was a truly fantastic and engaging lecture, and we hope to hear of the research findings of her team soon!
