On Tuesday 6th February, 11 pupils studying German in LV-LVI travelled to Magdalen College School, Oxford, to participate in a study workshop on East Germany: how do we remember?

Prior to the workshop, we walked along the High Street to admire the beautiful university buildings including the Radcliffe Camera, Bodleian Library, and Sheldonian Theatre. Alumna, Lydia Metaxa (2022 Leaver) who is studying German and French at Oriel College, kindly led the mini-tour and explained what student life is like.

At Magdalen College, pupils were treated to a lecture delivered by Professor Karen Leeder of Queen's College, focusing on the power and pitfalls of remembering this key period of history.

Pupils then took part in a group translation task on Eingaben schreiben (petition writing), and creative task to design a memorial to the German Democratic Repuplic (East Germany), before presenting their work to the audience.
