If you have ever wondered what members of staff get up to out of school, on Sunday morning a keen group of teaching and support staff, and a pair of four-legged interlopers, gathered for a social walk in the stunning Vale of Pewsey. The plan was to walk up to and along the highest ground in Wiltshire, traversing the ancient Wansdyke and Tan Hill Way, between Clifford’s Hill and Milk Hill. The bright and breezy weather conditions were absolutely perfect, and having ascended the ridge in good time, the hardy and brightly attired walkers paused for the inevitable summit photos before dividing into two teams for the return legs.
In addition to the glorious views of the surrounding hills and vales, the route provided more gentle but equally lovely scenery to enjoy along the Kennet and Avon Canal. While this was obviously an opportunity to enjoy some much-needed exercise, blow away cobwebs and clear busy minds, of course it was also a great chance to get to know familiar and less-familiar colleagues, and to talk about our founding common interest, our wonderful school. There was some talk of the DofE Award scheme expeditions to come next term, and some of those present were undoubtedly warming up in preparation.
The walk ended in the most appropriate way, with a delicious lunch and more nattering in a cosy and welcoming local hostelry. As the group set off home, there was talk of further gatherings in the near future.
