We were delighted to take part in two socials with Radley College this week. Firstly, on Friday 23rd February, the LVI were joined by a group of boys from Radley College to take part in a Linguistics-themed Thinking Supper. This was followed by the UVI heading to Radley College for their Caledonian Society Ball on Saturday.

The Thinking Supper took place in the Helen Wright common room, which was decorated for the event. Throughout the evening, we heard three different speeches, one from St Mary's students and two from the Radley boys. The talks ranged from the data behind languages to the history of languages as well as learning about how languages internationally had developed.

We also got a chance to play fun games, led by Mimi and Laylo, which got us interacting with Radley and testing our Latin skills. We shared delicious food while we discussed languages and got to know the boys. Finally, we ended with a game similar to charades which tested all of our linguistic skills and we finished with singing Happy Birthday to Bea.

We all enjoyed the evening very much and I thought it was the perfect way to improve our language skills whilst also meeting new people. Thank you so much to everyone who organised it and for Helen Wright Boarding House for letting us use the common room for the night.

Last Saturday, 25 of the UVI went to Radley College for our final reeling social at the Caledonian Society Ball. The evening started with a drink’s reception, followed by a delicious three-course meal.

The Radley boys were great company, and everyone had an amazing time. After the dinner, we filled in dance cards and did four reels, ending with strip the willow. We had a brilliant caller, John Carver, taking us through each of the dances.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and it was a great social to bring our time at St Mary's to a close.
