On Wednesday evening, Sixth Form English students gathered for this term’s English Society meeting. Led by the English prefects Jemima, Sophia, and Georgie, everyone fully embraced the medieval theme.

Students enjoyed sushi and drinks by candlelight, accompanied by medieval music, costumes, and a selection of fitting readings. These included a modern rap retelling of the original Middle English version of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, as well as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Lady of Shalott, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, a Petrarchan sonnet, and a duologue by John Skelton.

The evening culminated in some impromptu dancing, featuring the traditional medieval carole. It was a night of great fun, with a memorable time had by all.
