On Thursday 12th September, we hosted the UV Careers Evening Networking Event in the Lumi Library. A fantastic number of alumnae returned to Calne to talk about their career paths, some of whom hadn't visited Calne since leaving! They were extremely impressed by the girls' insightful questions and genuine interest in their career journeys - and were quite envious of the wonderful Lumi Library, which proved to be a perfect setting for the event!

The girls were buzzing with excitement by the time they arrived back to House and have provided their thoughts on the evening below. Our thanks go to all the guests for finding the time to attend; it was very much appreciated.

'The evening was incredibly interesting and useful as it helped us think about what sort of career path we may want to pursue. The speakers varied from army recruiters to rug designers, and they were all incredibly kind and welcomed questions.' Emilie, UV

'At the careers evening, I was fortunate enough to talk to a few former Calne girls, each with different but highly successful and interesting careers. I spoke to two lawyers (Jacqueline Drury and Victoria Goodlad), which was very useful, as that is a path I would very much like to follow in the future. They gave me great insight into the world of law, the qualifications needed, and how to find the balance between work and life as an adult. I am very grateful for the experience and the advice they generously shared.' Eve, UV

'Overall, I really enjoyed the whole careers evening. It was interesting and insightful to hear from so many influential people from various lines of work, from law and business to army recruitment and sciences. It was a great chance for us to ask any questions we had about their careers and fields of work, as well as how we could follow similar paths and what top tips they would give us. We were also put into small groups with each speaker, which gave us the chance to have more open and relaxed conversations, which were super helpful. All the speakers were very friendly and impressive. Overall, I had an amazing evening, found it super useful, and gained a clearer understanding of many new fields of work.' Coco, UV

The careers evening was a great experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by all, as our eyes were opened to the wider world and our futures for the first time. The school supplied many experienced alumnae and locals from a range of different fields, which was really beneficial. I had a great time talking to professionals in different areas of law, as well as marketing experts and army officers. All in all, it was a great experience that I hope can be repeated in the near future. Emily, UV

'On Thursday evening, we were lucky enough to listen to amazing people passionately talk about their careers at the annual UV Careers Networking Evening. These interesting talks inspired many and helped us widen our knowledge of future careers.' Poppy, UV

'On Thursday, we were lucky enough to attend the annual Careers Networking Evening. We heard from people in a wide variety of jobs, ranging from law to biochemistry (including some old Calne girls), who offered valuable knowledge and advice about their careers. It was such a useful evening, and it definitely got us all thinking about what we want to do in the future.' Issy, UV
