On Friday 31 January, UV GCSE Drama and LVI A Level drama students travelled to the Theatre Royal in Bath to watch the smash-hit West End play, Ghost Stories.
The show was off to an exciting start, with jump-scares and thrills, as well as an interesting and engaging plot that kept us and the rest of the audience on the edge of our seats. We were guided through a brief history of the supernatural, led by ‘Professor’ Goodman, an expert on parapsychology, establishing a rich and multi-layered plot line that kept the audience engaged.
We were lead through terrifying and thrilling re-telling of three different characters paranormal experiences, the highly technical elements of the play creating a scary, but captivating, performance. The immersive sound and use of puppetry and props to create monsters and ghosts left the audience in shock and disbelief.
At the story climax, where the protagonist is forced to confront his own dark past, the theatre was alive with intense lighting and waves of discordant and unsettling sound effects, that resulted in an impactful and thrilling ending.
Ghost Stories is a play that no one will forget in a hurry, and my fellow students and I left feeling inspired, disturbed, and thoroughly entertained.
