Our Spanish and Italian linguists, along with GrowClub (our school gardening club) have been savouring the perfect blend of their passion for language, food, and cultural experiences.
As part of Culture Week, the LVI Hispanists kicked things off with a vibrant Spanish cookery lesson. Donning their flamenco aprons, they whipped up classic dishes like tortilla española, torrijas, and pan con tomate. The teamwork was fantastic, and the results? Simply delicious - though they didn’t last long!
GrowClub then ventured into the cookery room to learn how aromatic herbs and spices, such as star anise, coriander, and cinnamon, impart their flavours during cooking, and to make the enduringly popular ‘Lao Gan Ma’ or Crispy Chilli in Oil. It was a true pleasure to watch everyone, from LIV to LVI, collaborate so seamlessly while learning how to recreate this flavourful dish.
In another tasty adventure, the UVI Italian class joined with others who had previously studied Italian. Bea, UVI, reported that under the expert guidance of Signora Alberelli, they headed to the cookery room to make their own pizzas. From a variety of toppings to plenty of Italian conversation, it was the perfect opportunity to practice the language, share experiences, and discuss future travels to Italy. A huge thank you to Signora Alberelli for making it all happen.
This delicious combination of food, culture, and language has left us hungry for more exciting cultural adventures ahead.
