On Thursday 6 February, the UV Religious Studies GCSE Full Course class welcomed Mrs Rosalind Brown, a former missionary to the Ivory Coast, who visited to share her insights on Christian mission, evangelism, and persecution – an important aspect of our Christian Practices topic. Here, two of the UV report back on her visit:
'Mrs Brown's visit gave us valuable insight into the practical application of Christianity. As she provided a first-hand account of the challenges and rewards of faith-based work in diverse cultural contexts, we were able to connect the abstract Christian principles, such as evangelism, to real-world examples. The missionary's visit provided us with the opportunity to consider both the personal calling to missionary work and the broader impact of Christian missions within contemporary society.' Addy A.
'On Thursday, we met Mrs Brown who talked to us about her time in Côte d'Ivoire while she was on mission. She explained how she went there to spread the Gospel, as many people didn't have access to a bible or church. Her husband was dedicated to helping the community, building the church structures and preaching, whereas Mrs Brown focused on teaching the children. Unfortunately, they were forced to leave the country due to civil war, as it was no longer safe for her family. However, since the war ended, she has returned to visit the community, which is now thriving.' Grace M.
