On Wednesday 18 June, five St Mary’s pupils took to the field for Avebury Cricket Club’s U16 Girls team in a 16-over evening match against Royal Wootton Bassett (RWB). Representing St Mary’s were Amelia S (LIV), Emilia C (MIV), Octavia SP (MIV), Mabel R (UIV), and Morolayo A (LV), all of whom played key roles during the match.

Avebury bowled first, with the St Mary’s players sharing in the success contributing with catches, run outs, and bowled wickets. Despite RWB proving strong in the field, the St Mary’s girls made the most of their batting opportunity, gaining valuable time at the crease and relishing the chance to play alongside new teammates from the club.

The match proved to be a nail-biter, coming down to the final ball. RWB just held off Avebury’s run chase to secure victory by a narrow margin of 3 runs.

This match marked a fantastic opportunity for the girls to broaden their cricketing experience outside of school, and we look forward to further collaboration with Avebury CC next season offering girls of all ages more chances to enjoy both women's and girls’ club cricket.
