On Monday 9 June, St Mary’s hosted an action-packed Primary School Lacrosse Festival, welcoming pupils from seven local schools, including St Margaret’s. With more than 100 children taking part, the day provided a fantastic opportunity for participants to learn a new sport and enjoy playing together.
The morning began with skills sessions led by our St Mary’s Sports Leaders, who coached the young players through the fundamentals of lacrosse. From passing and catching to groundballs and shooting, pupils made rapid progress and demonstrated great enthusiasm and determination throughout.
Once the basics had been mastered, the children were split into 14 teams to take part in small-sided lacrosse games, allowing for plenty of gameplay. These mini matches were a brilliant opportunity for pupils to put their new skills to the test in a friendly, competitive environment.
After an energetic afternoon of lacrosse, pupils were treated to a well-deserved ice lolly – a refreshing reward after playing in the afternoon heat.
A huge thank you goes to our fantastic Sports Leaders and LVI pupils for their coaching, leadership and umpiring, which helped make the day such a success. Their enthusiasm ensured that every child left with new skills – and a keen desire to play more lacrosse.
