The LVI students were able to attend a range of lectures on topics as diverse as the causes of the English Civil War with Jonathan Healey, Alexander the Great with Stephen Harrison, the leaders of World War Two with Philips Payson O’Brien, hidden figures of the Empire with Shalina Patel, Crusader armies with Steve and Faith Tibble, the life of Lee Miller with Kate Vigurs, or Tudor Queens with Nicola Clark.

In between lectures, there were plenty of opportunities to learn about the past by getting ‘hands-on’ with neolithic painting, medieval falconry, Napoleonic firearms, Iron Age housing, Bronze Age pottery, steam locomotives and Second World War tanks. Our students took every opportunity to ask questions of the experts, clamber into historic vehicles and explore the book tent.

The combination of fun and learning made for a splendid day out.
