Over the February Half Term, 18 A Level History of Art students from LVI and UVI ventured off to Florence for a wonderful immersive trip led by Dr Wickson and supported by Mrs Fryar and Mlle LeCamp. During a thought-provoking Academic Enrichment Week session, the MIV explored the ethical implications of AI, delving into topics like self-driving cars, human identity, and the potential risks and benefits of advanced technology on our society.
Chloe’s Farm brought a mobile zoo to the school, where Chloe, a female farmer, shared her experiences and the challenges of farming while inspiring our Fourth Form students to follow their passions.
As a part of Academic Enrichment Week, the MFL Department celebrated the legacy of The Ballad of Mulan, inspiring students across various year groups to explore the themes of bravery, identity, and societal expectations through creative projects, a captivating play, and discussions about the legendary figure of Mulan.
This week, four LVI girls were formally welcomed as Young Leaders in Girlguiding, with Ada and Ottilie joining the 2nd Calne Rainbows and Eliza and Tabi assisting the 1st Calne Guides, where they have made invaluable contributions to both units' activities and growth.
A team of LVI netballers emerged as the overall champions at the Bristol Grammar 7's Tournament on Sunday, winning the final 19-11 in a highly contested match. The victory capped an impressive series of performances, with Eliza F. also being named Player of the Tournament and winning a Flyhawk netball signed by Eboni Usoro-Brown.
On Monday 10 February, the Classics department together with LIV and MIV explored the ideas the Romans had about both predicting and shaping the future.
It's been a busy time for indoor cricket fixtures! The U15 team won their match against Hardenhuish, advancing to the Wiltshire county finals on 14 March. The U13 team reached the semi-finals of the ECB Girls Indoor Cricket Tournament, where they were narrowly defeated by Sheldon.
Pupils from UIV played in their first tennis fixture of the year against Marlborough College on Thursday evening. Capi, Kitty, Annabel and Katelyn started the fixture by playing doubles against their opposite pairs in a timed tennis format.
On Thursday 6 February, the UV Religious Studies GCSE Full Course class welcomed Mrs Rosalind Brown, a former missionary to the Ivory Coast, who visited to share her insights on Christian mission, evangelism, and persecution – an important aspect of our Christian Practices topic.
