The 4th Calne (St Mary’s Calne) Guides and Rangers have enjoyed a festive end to the term with a variety of activities, from fire-lighting practice to Christmas crafts. Highlights of the term included participating in the Girlguiding Calne District Carol Service and earning their first badge.
The Autumn Term began with the exciting Hockey Super League competition, where UIV to UVI girls formed teams and competed every Friday night for the coveted title. The term has been thrilling, with close matches and teams frequently shifting positions on the leaderboard.
The Senior Netball Team has had an exciting and action-packed term playing in the local Calne Ladies Netball League! We've enjoyed both practice and match play every Monday night, and it's been a fantastic experience. Not only have we had some thrilling matches, but we've also learned so much from competing against more experienced players.
We've been delighted to resume ballet lessons at St Mary's Calne, expertly taught by Miss Samantha from The Dancing Academy. A small yet dedicated group of girls now study the Royal Academy syllabus in both Advanced and Intermediate/Beginner classes.
After a fruitful summer, the Platinum Jubilee Garden has thrived through autumn and early winter with harvests, jams, and festive wreath-making. Looking forward to a sweet strawberry harvest in June and a new gardening year ahead.
On Wednesday evening, Sixth Form English students gathered for this term’s English Society meeting. Led by the English prefects Jemima, Sophia, and Georgie, everyone fully embraced the medieval theme.
On Saturday 30 November, the LVI English Literature students were fortunate to attend an evening performance of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Rondo Theatre in Bath.
The highly anticipated staff vs students hockey game kicked off with much excitement from both the teams and the eager crowd. Played in fantastic spirits, both the staff and student teams pulled off some incredible passes, razor-sharp shots, and tight defences that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Our Sixth Form students have been actively participating in the Saturday Futures Programme, which explores essential life skills to support their future success. These include financial literacy, personal health knowledge, risk management, and even basic DIY skills.
On Monday evening, the Major Minors Children's Choir, our talented community choir, proudly presented their annual Christmas concert in the festive setting of Southwell Hall at St Margaret's Prep. With Mrs Allard at the piano, the children shone brightly, showcasing an eclectic repertoire that spanned a variety of genres, filling the hall with holiday cheer and joyful music.
